Buying Your First Pool Table

Getting a pool or billiard table is definitely one of the most important dreams that men have growing up. Regardless of where your life takes you when you grow up and get responsibilities, there will always be time for a few games of pool. However, in these rough times where the global economic crisis is still affecting our day to day lives, purchasing equipment that is designed especially for leisure time, may not be a real option for many of us. There is however another option which allows you to make that dream come true, and that is a second hand table. Sure, many people can’t stand buying something that is not new and this extends of course to pool tables and Billiard Supplies, but the reality is that purchasing a second hand table makes it more than affordable. However, you must be extra careful when buying a used pool table and billiard accessories because you do not want to end up owning a table that is pretty much worthless due to excessive wear, poor storing conditions and so on.

One of the biggest problems found in most used pool tables sold through newspaper ads and internet forums is worn out Billiard Cloth. Depending on the number of games played on a certain table and on the way players treated the table when playing pool, billiard cloth may or may not need to be changed. My personal opinion is that billiard cloth starts to wear out within a few months since it is first put to use. Consequently, regardless of how long the pool table has been used by its previous owner or owners, you should put in the effort of changing or replacing the billiard cloth. Believe it or not, billiard cloth, together with the angle of the table’s board the correct alignment of the holes, makes all the difference when playing pool. Now going back to tips useful for the time when you are out looking to buy used pool tables.

There are a few aspects you need to pay close attention to when looking at a used table. Since many used pool tables have the felt or billiard cloth really worn out, you should ask the owner if it is okay to remove the felt in order to check that table’s slate. This is one of the most important components of such a table, and in order to play quality pool, the slate needs to be free of any bumps, holes, cracks and so on. You can also check by running your hand across the surface as you will be able to feel any major issues with the tips of your fingers. The next factor is the four cushions found on every side of the table slate. These are also important because if the rubber is old and does not have satisfactory elastic properties, your game will suffer greatly, as the ball trajectories will not match those you would expect to see.
